So this lady at the golf channel said young players should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley". The context of this statement was that someone needed to do something to slow him down or no one will ever win again. She could have said that they should kick him in the nuts, or poke him in the eye, or stab him in the leg or throw him in a shallow grave. But she used the word lynch and now she will probably be fired. Sharpton said the word is very offensive to black people and you would think he would want us to believe that it is only black people that have ever been lynched.
Well, Sharpton is offensive to me. Does anyone know where they keep the forms to get him fired?
Oh, he doesn't have a job and he chases ambulances? That makes him an authority on race relations.
How silly is this?
If I offended anyone in this post, good! you probably needed it...

I'm offended. That lady is an idiot. She should know better than to say something like that.
One thing I don't get is why people get fired for such things. It is like we have to collectively punish folks for being insensitive or moronic. How about saying, "hey, that was foolish and insensitive. I'd appreciate it if you'd be careful what you say. And an apology would be nice." And leave it at that. The goal of discipline is restoration. Firing people only makes them angry and leaves no chance for reconciliation.
It is offensive and that lady is an idiot. Maybe she didn't mean anything racist by it, maybe she did. Either way, she's a broadcaster and there are probably plenty of other broadcasters out there who are just as good as her who wont suggest lynching a black athlete on national television. That offense is worth AT LEAST a length suspension, an apology and perhaps even firing. As far as a chance for reconciliation - reconcile with whom, Tiger? That's just silly. The public nature of her job demands a harsh punishment I think.
what do you think about the fact that she has been a friend of tiger for the past 10 years and has apologized to him and he basically said 'don't worry about it'. It wasn't until the good rev. sharpton got involved that she was even mentioned or suspended.
I don't think she is an idiot, and y'all should be fired for saying that word (see previous post about the word idiot). I think she said one wrong word when she had hundreds to chose from. An on air apology would all I ask from her (if even that).
Then she's still guilty of extremely poor judgment. Again - there are plenty of folks just as talented waiting to take her job. In other words, she is very expendable. I don't care if she and tiger are best friends or hate each other. As a public sports anchor, you shouldn't make statements like that - even if it was unintentional and nothing more than poor judgment.
how many lawyers are there? have you ever screwed up or said one wrong word? should 5 letters cost you your job?
just because there are people waiting in line does not make one disposable to the whim of the most reverend Albert Sharpton.
I haven't screwed up like that. And there are plenty of people waiting to take my job and I know plenty of people who have been told to start looking for other jobs or outright fired for simple mistakes.
For what it's worth, your mention of Sharpton is the first I heard of his involvement. I don't care what he says. All I know is this:
A white woman on a nationally publicized television network suggested that a black man's opponents lynch him in a back alley.
That statement, even if said innocently (and therefore, very stupidly) is a big mistake. And it's offensive. A suspension is certainly warranted, and, due to the unique public nature of her position (which I don't have) firing may be justifiable.
She's not disposable to the whim of Sharpton. She's disposable because of her own actions.
