The Myth of Galileo

Here is a pretty interesting article. The applications section was particularly insightful and relevant to our earlier discussions vis a vis Darwin and Intelligent Design debates, etc.

Who would have guessed that my next post would be about Galileo? Heh...

Jason,

Great article. Thanks for linking it.

Just to connect it with George's post, this is why it is so important to understand the importance of "myth" in our cultural identity. Galileo was fighting against the accepted cultural mythology of the story of the cosmos, and his battle has become a cultural myth in it's own right.

This is precisely why we need to understand (and to some degree control, when it comes to our kids) the myths that shape our culture. This is where JRRT comes in and is so important.

Again, thanks.
