keep the streak alive

Tuesday afternoon, Josh called me about free tickets he had to the Cardinals rescheduled opener (thanks Josh). It was the first opener I have been to (all the opening festivities were done on Monday though - before it was called in the third). The game was pretty good. Loshe pitched well, Mclellan looks real good, Barton got a hit, and Molina hit a homer. But most of the hitting was poor - pop-ups and ground outs. And Ryan Franklin served up grapefruits to squander the lead in the eighth.

Then, this afternoon (Wednesday), another one of my neighbors called me up about free tickets he just got. So I went again (thanks Iain). The results were better this time: Cardinals 8, Rockies 3. Ankiel made a great diving catch that was Edmondsesque. He also made a great throw to third to keep a runner from advancing, Hit a homer, and beat out a throw on a run from first to third. Ryan Ludwick killed the ball tonight. He smashed at least three line drives to the wall (one of them was caught). Mclellan pitched again and got through two innings on 12 pitches (in contrast to Wellemeyers 95 pitches for 5 innings). Villone looked good too. But Franklin is disconcerting. He tried to give away the game again tonight. They were teeing off on his pitches. Right now he is a detriment to the team. Springer didn't look so hot either (though he pitched well Tuesday). Here is the blurb about franklin from the Post Dispatch,
Franklin absorbed damage for a second consecutive night when with two out shortstop Cesar Izturis failed to glove Garrett Atkins' line drive and Hawpe followed with a double off the fence fronting the Cardinals' bullpen. With no one warming, Franklin got catcher Yorvit Torrealba to bounce weakly to first base for the third out.
This is misleading. Atkins line-drive was high smash and Izturis nearly made something out of nothing by getting a piece of it with glove and almost grabbing the rebound. And Franklin didn't "get" anybody to do anything. They were pounding him hard and he was fortunate Torrealba hit the grounder.

The Cardinals need to get Mulder and Pineiro back so Looper and Thompson can take Franklin's spot as the 8th inning guy. Or better yet, stick Mclellan in there.

But, getting back to the main point, So far I have been to every Cardinals home game. I am now hoping to make it to all 81 of them. And I don't plan on paying for tickets either. Send free tickets my way and keep the streak alive.

ask not what the edema's can do for you, ask what you can do for the edema's.

George,
If I get any free tickets to a Cardinals' game, I will definitely send them your way. I love the Edemas that much.

I hate Ryan Franklin already. Bring up Chris Perez! On with the youth movement!

The streak is dead. No ticket offers today. I would have probably had to turn them down anyway with all the Hebrew I have to translate for tomorrow (and Abby would probably change the locks on the door).

As of right now the cards are up 3-0 going into the bottom of the 7th. Brad Thompson pitched 6.2 innings of shut-out ball. It would be a good sign if they could take two of three from the National League Champs with their 4 and 5 pitchers. They could be going for the sweep if Franklin stayed on the bench. Franklin is in the early lead for this year's team goat.

Perhaps I spoke too soon, Reyes is now pitching.

Reyes just struck out the side (Spilborghs, Tulowitski, and Helton).

I did not see that coming.

George,

Check out our "little Cardinal" on my blog.

Our older kids went to the game with their school yesterday. They were excited, even if they will likely be sick in a day or two after being out in the non-baseball weather for 2 1/2 hours.

I saw that. And her big sis told us all about the outfit she was going to wear in Sunday school. It's an exciting time. Go Cards!
