Last week Wednesday (or was it the week before?), Jon called me up to go with him to the 12:01 showing of the new Indiana Jones movie. We were some of the first people in the central time zone to see it. And that is the kind of thing that is good for the ol' resume.
I found out that Abby hadn't seen either of the first two Jones movies. I hadn't seen them in quite a while so I rented them for us this past week. My initial reaction to the new film was that the action was significantly more over-the-top than the previous films. But after viewing ROTLA and TOD, I realized that the action was a bit far-fetched at times in those as well. Still, the new one has some action scenes that are way out there. Too out there, in my opinion. The writing had some serious flaws too. As did the story in general. But it was entertaining, so that was something.
My judgment stands thusly:
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is the best film of the bunch.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is the best for the 8-14 male demographic.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark was the best for its time.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls is the best Jones film released in the 21st century.
What say ye?

I haven't seen it yet and I am debating if I should spend movie money or rental money on it.
what say ye?
If you are or ever were caught up in the Indiana Jones machine then I can see there being a nostalgia/pop-cultural-event type of draw to seeing it on the big screen. But if you are looking for a high quality action film then save your money for Hancock or The Hulk. I've heard Iron Man is good.
no sex/nudity/inappropriate wardrobe (you can go with your wife without blushing even once).
no cussing that I recall.
As for the action, it is supposed to be over the top. These films were never meant to be "realistic" action films, more like an adventure comic book story.
I'd say that it is a good flick if you know what to expect.
I know it is supposed to be over the top, but IJ4 was too far gone to suspend reality. I kept being jarred from the movie by thoughts like, "that is stupid," or "no way that would ever happen." I think they wen tover the line from comic book adventure to cartoon adventure.
"no sex/nudity/inappropriate wardrobe (you can go with your wife without blushing even once).
no cussing that I recall." - no fun:)
since George wasn't a big fan, I should def. go before it is pulled from the big screen.
I enjoyed the movie, and I'd recommend seeing it. It's fun.
My problem with it was that they tried to make an older Harrison Ford do things that only the younger Harrison Ford should have been doing. The editing was a bit choppy in places, and one of the things that made the other movies so cool was seeing Harrison Ford do all those crazy stunts. He just can't keep up anymore, I suppose, and I don't blame him. But they ended up having to cut away a few seconds before they would have in previous films because he obviously couldn't pull off the whole stunt any more.
And, I'm getting kinda tired of that Transformers dude who played the side kick in this one. I could have done without his smart (and occasionally foul) mouth. It was out of character for the other IJs (was there any language in the older ones stronger than a mumbled "son of a b*&%$"?
On another subject, what did y'all think of Prince Caspian? They deviated hard from the book, but I really enjoyed it. I thought all of the negativity I've heard about it was way off. It was great--even Reepicheep was done well!
