stuff I've been enjoying

The new Vampire Weekend album. Here are some samples - 1, 2, 3.
The Battlestar Gallactica TV series. Very cool premise and story.
This song from the past (2003ish).
Tolkien's On Fairy Stories.
The 1999 TV series Freaks and Geeks. This show is amazing.

Vampire Weekend, yes.
Battlestar Gallactica, not interested, though I was somewhat surprised about how not Star Trek weird and geeky it was if that means anything.
That song, hilarious. I actually like it better seeing the guy. Before, I kind of pictured him like Vanilla Ice or Marky Mark.
Tolkien, or Austen? You've got him; I've got her. But eventually, maybe I'll get around to him. Probably not though. Who are we kidding?
Freaks and Geeks, yes. But "amazing" is pretty much a useless adjective by now. It's like what CS Lewis says about the word "gentleman," it gets so commonly improperly used that it loses all meaning whatever. Are you really AMAZED by Freaks and Geeks? Okay, maybe. More helpfully for people that aren't familiar with it though, it is a really funny and true to life commentary about the high school experience in the form of an hour long drama/sitcom. It is very well done, surprisingly not cliche, and poignant and honest, to the point that it is not always easy to watch because it is so close to your own embarrassing experiences (and there are enough characters that in almost any case, it really does hit the nail on the head!) That's just off the cuff, but more informative than "amazing."
